What is MRI?
Open MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) provides maximum comfort while generating high-quality images. Magnetic fields and radio waves are used to visualize internal organs and soft tissue without the use of X-rays. The painless procedure has no known side effects. Midwest Open Imaging's open scanner design reduces anxiety and is ideal for patients who are claustrophobic, elderly, physically challenged, or who have a large or athletic build. In addition, patients can have a friend or family member in the scan room during their entire exam.

How to prepare for your MRI No special preparation is required prior to an MRI exam. You may eat normally and go about your daily routine. Continue to take any medication prescribed by your doctor unless otherwise directed.
Because of the magnetic field, you will be asked to leave the following items in a locked cabinet or with another person outside the scan room:
Coins, Jewelry, Metal Objects, Watches Glasses, Credit Cards, Keys & Hair Pins.
You may also be asked to remove make-up, dentures and wear a hospital gown to avoid magnetic interference from belt buckles or zippers.

What to expect during your MRI: |
Once you are resting on the table, make sure you are comfortable so that is is easy to stay still. You can choose to have a friend or family member with you in the scan room. Breathe normally, as there is nothing about the procedure to make you uncomfortable. The only thing you will notice is a faint knocking sound which represents the changes in the magnetic field. One of our technologists will be able to watch and hear you at all times. Once your exam is over, the technologist will assist you out of the scan room.
